What would happen to your business if the key contact person at each of your top ten accounts suddenly left their company?  Would you have the capability to maintain your present level of business without interruption?  Are your relationships with your clients sufficiently layered to insure a consistent flow of business even if the key contact leaves the company?  If you have an effective account development program in place, loosing your key contact does no equate with loosing an account.  However, if your flow of business is dependent on a singular relationship, you are vulnerable.

A properly designed and implemented account development program has three primary objectives:

  1. To effectively apply your company's resources in securing from, and servicing with each account, a maximum amount of qualified business.
  2. To develop working relationships with all the key centers of influence (decision makers) at each account, thereby maximizing your leveraging ability while minimizing your vulnerability.
  3. To fully understand your client's business, to understand the true value they place on your services, and to focus on becoming an appreciating asset to their organization.
